You
will have the opportunity to watch Beaver at work, to see
Moose, Deer and Black Bear. You may watch Bald Eagles soar,
nesting Osprey, a variety of Hawks, Cormorants, a large
population of Pelicans exclusive to Lake of the Woods and
be serenaded by the calls of the Loons. Lake of the Woods
has gained a position of historical significance within
the region and maintains a reputation for fine fishing
and hunting as well as establishing itself as a prime attraction
for tourism. Travel by auto... our
main base is located on the shores of Long Bay, 3/4 mile
off HWY 71, on Laughing Water Road, approximately 3 miles
north of Sioux Narrows, Ontario. From Canada take the Trans-Canada
Hwy to the junction of Hwy 71 just east of Kenora, Ontario.
Drive south on Hwy 71, 50 km (30 miles) to the Laughing
Water Road. From the U.S., cross the Border at either International
Falls or Baudette, Minnesota. Take Hwy 11 West from International
Falls, or East from Baudette, approximately 25 miles to
the Junction of Hwy 71. Turn north on Hwy 71, travel approximately
60 miles through Nestor Falls and Sioux Narrows to Laughing
Water Road. Laughing Water Road is approximately 3 miles
north of the Sioux Narrows Bridge. Turn west on the Laughing
Water Road and follow the signs to the Base Camp. The mileages
on the map above are from AAA. The major routes provide
four lane expressways and limited access highways for a
great portion of your trip. Travel by air... both
International Falls, Minn and Kenora, Ontario, are serviced
by commercial air carriers. We will be happy to arrange
transportation from these points to our base on advance
notice. Private aircraft may fly direct to either Kenora,
ON, or Nestor Falls, ON. Both offer paved runways and tie
downs.
Sioux Narrows is well known for its excellent Gift shops and its full range
of services all right in downtown Sioux Narrows.
Experience any of your favorite leisure activities from swimming to golfing
to hiking and of course superb fishing.
Along the trails and on the islands of Lake of the Woods, you will find a variety
of wild flowers, wild blueberries and raspberries.
